PAWS-PATAS is an Animal Shelter in Los Gallardos, Almería, Spain where dogs and cats find a safe home. It is a shelter where animals are NOT killed, regardless of the length of stay. Every PAWS-PATAS animal is sterilized/neutered when it has reached the required age. Every year, more than 250 dogs and 60 cats are rehomed in Spain, the Netherlands, England and Germany. In 2015, more than 60% of the PAWS-PATAS dogs were rehomed in the Netherlands. The organization was founded in 1989 and was formally registered as a Spanish charity in 1996.

PAWS-PATAS has only one (part-time) employee, manager Vanessa. The organization with its charity shops, fundraising activities, administration, and animal shelter volunteers is staffed by a team of 75 volunteers within Spain and 10 in the Netherlands.

One of the most valuable forms of support from the Netherlands is the continuous flow of Dutch and other foreign volunteers and interns who visit the PAWS-PATAS shelter. They stay in two mobile homes and a camper on the site and participate in the daily work and care of the dogs.
